SUNNYVALE, Calif., - December 4, 2000 - Simplex Solutions, Inc. today announced that it has signed an agreement with MIPS Technologies, Inc., a leading provider of industry standard processor architectures and cores for digital consumer and network applications, for Simplex’s SoC verification tools. Under the agreement, MIPS Technologies will deploy Simplex’s VoltageStorm™ SoC power integrity and Fire & Ice® QX extraction tools at the MIPS Denmark Development Center (MDDC) in Copenhagen, Denmark.
“We are impressed with the speed and accuracy of the full-chip extraction performed by Fire & Ice QX, and with the ease of use VoltageStorm SoC offers for analysis of IR (or voltage) drop,” said Christian Folting, engineering manager for MIPS Technologies. “Our advanced 64-bit microprocessors have a pressing need for transistor-accurate power grid analysis, with gate-level speed. The Simplex solution delivers on our expectations.”
The demand for 64-bit processor cores is growing rapidly as new applications proliferate for digital entertainment, mobile computing devices, and communications, networking and advanced office-automation products. Accordingly, SoC designers require full-chip verification tools that rapidly identify and help resolve critical power and timing issues.
VoltageStorm SoC is the premier solution for performing high-speed, hierarchical analysis of power-grid IR, or voltage, drop and electromigration (EM) risk at any stage of physical design. Fire & Ice QX is the fastest full-chip, 3D-accurate extraction solution for both place-and-route timing verification and final tapeout verification.
John Elliott, director of European operations for Simplex, said, “We are very pleased to enhance our partnership with MIPS Technologies. It’s gratifying for us to see our tools address design challenges in advanced 64-bit cores. We are particularly pleased to have our tools implemented in MIPS Technologies’ prestigious MDDC.”
